Modern 2 Meter Earth-Moon- Earth(EME) and Weak Signal Operation
EME Communication, also known as moon bounce, has become a popular form of amateur space communication. The concept is simple: the moon is used as a passive reflector for two way communication between two locations on earth. With a total path length of half a million miles, EME may be considered the ultimate DX. Presentation includes pictures and screenshots from this year’s winning EME contest station K1JT. Presentation also includes photos of modest stations, links to obtain open source executable software, scheduling sites.
About the presenters:
Amateur Extra class and ARRL life member Woody Peitzer AK2F, was first licensed in 1975. He is an active ham on 160 meters through 1296 MHz. Woody received a BSEE from Syracuse University in 1980 with graduate school at Univ of NC Charlotte. He has spent 35 years in engineering working at IBM, HEPCO, and RAM Mobile Data. Past 18 years working at AT&T as Principal Product Development Engineer working on smartphone engineering and advanced network diagnostics. He holds several patents in LTE and handset technology. When not in his ham shack, he volunteers at Morristown Performing Arts Center, Newton Theater, running 5 km, and working on his Prius. He is married to Wendy KA2YLF and has two grown children. Amateur Extra Class, ARRL member, Roger Shultz, NJ2R, first licensed in 1956 as KN8AJF in Ohio. Active on 80-2 meters, QRP portable VHF, EME and terrestrial on 2 meters going on 5 years. Attended university of Akron, held executive technical and operations positions with MCI, and before retirement Cingular Wireless aka RAM Mobile Data.
